Gunungsitoli, N. Sumatra, (ANTARA News)- A major earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter Scale jolted the island of Nias off Western coast of North Sumatra on Saturday.

Head of the Gunungsitoli Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics office Djati said there has been no report of casualty and damage to property.

Reports of tremors came from almost all areas of Nias but no reports of serious damage caused by the quake.

The quake that hit at 15.23 local time with epicenter in the sea 8 kilometers northwest of western Nias at a depth of 24 kilometers has no potential to cause tsunami, Djati said.
