"The number increased significantly by 37.6 percent from the normal daily traffic of 170,768 cars," the company`s assistant vice president for corporate communications, Dwimawan Heru, stated here on Tuesday.
Just on Sunday (Dec 30), the number of cars leaving Jakarta via the toll gate was 68,478, up 28.7 percent of the normal daily traffic of 53,220. But the increase was not as significant as two days before, when it was recorded at 40 percent, he noted.
He added that 52.3 percent of the cars traveled on the northern highway via Palimanan and Cikampek toll gates, and 47.7 percent traveled on the southern highway via Sadang and Cileunyi toll gates.
Several toll gates, including Pasteur on Purbaleunyi toll road and Ciawi on Jagorawi toll road, also recorded a significant increase in daily traffic.
This means that most of the motorists were those wishing to spend much of their time in the tourist destinations near the toll gates during the New Year eve, he remarked.
The number of cars passing though Pasteur toll gate was 112,249, up 9.8 percent of the normal daily traffic at 102,213.
Meanwhile, the number of cars passing through Ciawi toll gate was 112,447, up 14.3 percent of the normal daily traffic of 98,364.
