Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - The Water Police of Timor Leste on Saturday, Jan 19, detained 18 fishermen from East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT), Indonesia, according to a local official of NTT.

"We have just received a report about the arrest and are now coordinating with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and the Indonesian Embassy in Dili to check on the report," Ganef Wurgiyanto, head of the NTT maritime affairs and fisheries office, stated here, Monday.

The fishermen are residents of Pulau Buaya Village, Alor District, NTT, he added.

They were arrested for bringing fishing equipment while entering Timor Leste to sell fish in the neighboring small country.

The ministry and embassy confirmed the arrest, and the embassy is currently monitoring the case, he added.
