"The APAO is proud of the performance and dedication of Mrs Nila Moeloek as an ophthalmologist and has successfully become the minister of health in Indonesia," APAO President Charles N. J. McGhee stated in the Ministry of Health`s press statement received in Jakarta on Thursday.
The APAO acknowledges the active role and contribution of Moeloek, including members of the Board Maternal, New Born and Child Health WHO, members of the WHO Executive Board, and members of the Board Eat Forum.
In addition, Moeloek was viewed as being successful in encouraging increased access to health services in remote areas and islands.
She expressed hope that the performance of the Indonesian health minister would serve as an inspiration for all APAO members in the Asia-Pacific Region.
On the occasion of meeting with the APAO Board, Minister of Health Moeloek expressed gratitude to APAO for the award bestowed in recognition of their dedication and performance, so far. However, the minister of health stated that the award was not for herself but for the public and Government of Indonesia.
"This award is not only for myself, but in essence, is for the people and Government of Indonesia, especially the friends, who have supported me to achieve success in the development of a Healthy Indonesia," Minister Moeloek noted.
The 34th APAO Congress will take place on March 6-9, 2019, and feature various program activities in the form of seminars, panel discussions and scientific meetings, as well as exhibitions in the field of ophthalmology.
The Congress is held every two years and is attended by ophthalmologists from countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
