Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) officially declared United Development Party General Chair Muhammad Romahurmuziy along with two people as suspects in connection with job selection bribes in Indonesia's Religion Ministry for the 2018-2019 period.

"After conducting the examination and before the 24-hour deadline as stipulated in the Criminal Procedure Code, followed by the title of the case, it was concluded that corruption had allegedly taken place in the form of giving or receiving a prize or appointment related to the filling of positions within the Ministry of Religion for the 2018-2019 period," Deputy Chairperson Laode M. Syarif stated during a press conference at the KPK building, Jakarta, Saturday.

The KPK increased the status of case handling to investigation and determined three people as suspects, including Romahurmuziy, as alleged recipients of members of the DPR for the 2014-2019 period.

Head of Gresik District, Ministry of Religion, Muhammad Muafaq Wirahadi (MFQ) and Head of the East Java Provincial Ministry of Religion Haris Hasanuddin (HRS) had allegedly given the bribes.

The alleged recipients -- Romahurmuziy and his allies -- violated Article 12, letter a or letter b or Article 11 of Law Number 20 of 2001 on Amendment to Law Number 31 of 1999 on Eradication of Corruption Crimes in conjunction with Article 55, paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.

The alleged bribe-giver MFQ is suspected of violating Article 5, paragraph (1), letter a or letter b or Article 13 of Law Number 20 of 2001 on Amendment to Law Number 31 of 1999 on Eradication of Corruption Crimes, juncto Article 55, paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.

As the suspected bribe-giving party, HRS allegedly violated Article 5, paragraph (1), letter a or letter b or Article 13 of Law Number 20 of 2001 on Amendment to Law Number 31 of 1999 on Eradication of Corruption Crimes.

In this case, it was alleged that Romahurmuziy along with others from the Indonesian Ministry of Religion accepted the bribes to influence the results of selection to high-ranking leadership positions in the Indonesian Ministry of Religion, specifically the head of the Ministry of Religion Office of Gresik District and head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion of East Java Province.

The KPK secured money totaling Rp156,758,000 in sting operations in East Java, Friday, (Mar 15).

The KPK had earlier received a tip-off from the public regarding the occurrence of corruption transactions, and on the basis of preliminary evidence, conducted a series of investigative activities to carry out sting operations in Surabaya on Friday (Mar 15).
