AntaraJayapura (ANTARA) - Rains, lashing Jayapura District and the surrounding areas since Sunday (Mar 17) night until Monday morning, resulted in landslides, with the material covering the road at two different points.
The landslide material covered the villages of Netar and Asei Kecil, East Sentani Sub-district, Jayapura District, Papua Province.
Police Chief of the East Sentani Sector Iptu Heri Wicahya stated when confirmed from Jayapura on Monday that landslides had hit the villages of Netar and Asei Kecil due to heavy rainfall since Sunday night (Mar 17) until Monday morning, causing the landslide material to cover the road.
"This morning, our members and the surrounding community and officers from the National Electric Company conducted manual cleaning using a shovel, so that road users can drive comfortably," he added.
Although the landslide material has been cleared up, water is still accumulated on the road in the small village of Asei.
"We are attempting to remove the accumulated water, so that it does not hinder the smooth flow of traffic activities," he explained.
His side has appealed to motorists to be careful while driving during the extreme weather.
"We also request people to not drive during the extreme weather, as it could endanger the safety of those on the road," he added.
