Jakarta (ANTARA) - Six representatives from Indonesia blazed a trail into the quarter-finals of the 2019 Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open badminton tournament at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

According to the BWF official website monitored from Jakarta, Friday, Indonesia fielded only one representative in the men's singles category -- Jonatan Christie -- later scheduled to clash against Danish champion Viktor Axelsen.

On the same lines, Indonesia has placed its best bets on the pair of Ni Ketut Mahadewi Istarani and Rizki Amelia Pradipta for the women's doubles, and the duo will face Chinese pair Du Yue / Li Yinhui.

For the mixed doubles event, the Red and White Team too was able to field only one pair Tontowi Ahmad and Winny Oktavina Kandow scheduled to fight against Malaysian duo: Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing.

In the men's doubles category, Indonesia has sent three representatives, comprising Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan, to square off against Chinese pair Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen and Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, who will clash against their team mates, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.

The 2019 Malaysia Open tournament is being held on Apr 2-7, 2019, at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with the prize money up for grabs in the super 750 level badminton tournament reaching US$700 thousand.

The quarter-finals match will be held on Friday (Apr 5) from 15:00 local time.
