Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Police Chief General Tito Karnavian appealed to all parties to end the mobilization of supporters to revel in their vouched victory or to echo discontent over the outcome of Wednesday's parliamentary and presidential elections.

During a conversation with newsmen after a coordination meeting held to ensure security after the elections here on Thursday, Karnavian noted that the police had dispelled crowds rejoicing in the claimed win at the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday.

"We will work on dispersing the crowds mobilized by the duo competing camps similar to the protocol followed at the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout yesterday. I have appealed to all regional police chiefs to adopt a similar measure in their respective areas," he noted.

He further appealed to people of the country to be appreciative of the entire election process and to consider the General Elections Commission's (KPU's) real count as a reference, he remarked, adding that the Indonesian military and police were adept at spotting untoward developments.

The police will make all-out efforts to ensure optimal law enforcement against those intending to hinder stability, security, and social order of community members.

"A high voter participation rate has, until now, been recorded in our democratic process since the Reformation Era," he pointed out.

"The participation rate crosses eighty percent, or nearly over 160 million voters. Hence, the one emerging victorious in the elections will have high credibility and legitimacy stemming from the high public support," General Karnavian noted.

Nusa Cendana University Communications Professor Alo Liliweri had earlier cautioned that the claims of winning the presidential race by the Joko Widodo (Jokowi)-Ma'ruf Amin and Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno camps, Wednesday, could potentially give rise to chaos in society.

"Hence, responding judiciously to such claims of victory is the pressing need of the hour," Liliweri emphasized during a conversation with ANTARA in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara Province.

Several members of the community might have laid their trust on the credibility of results of pollsters averring that the Jokowi-Amin pair's electability surpassed that of the Subianto-Uno pair and of an exit poll and survey conducted by the Prabowo-Sandi camp.

The professor cautioned of a possible pandemonium arising, as the public is impelled by its perception on their beliefs.

The duo competing camps presently await the official results of real count by the KPU that will be legally binding.
