Medan (ANTARA) - Flash floods hit Deliserdang, North Sumatra, on Thursday, which began with an overflow of water from the upper reaches of the Seruai River, after heavy rains flushed upstream of the river.

"Flash floods make the road of two villages namely Bukum and Cingkam villages cut off, " said Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Deliserdang, Darwin Sitepu, who was contacted by cellular telephone from Medan on Thursday night.

To avoid a more widespread impact, Deliserdang's BPBD Rapid Reaction Team has rushed to the location.

He said the heavy equipment belonging to the Deliserdang Public Works Agency, he said, had been deployed to the affected area to clear flood materials that covered the road.

"There were no victims, but floods have made the road cut off so that the two villages namely Bukum and Cingkam villages were isolated, " he said.

He stressed that the current conditions are not dangerous, because the location is quite far from another village, namely Martelu Village, Deliserdang.
