"We stand together to not allow the spread of hoaxes, especially those targeting the KPU."
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara confirmed that the General Election Commission (KPU) had been on the receiving end of several hoax attacks or fake news pertaining to the 2019 election.

"Despite the election having concluded, we identified that hoaxes relating to the presidential election are still rampant," Minister Rudiantara remarked during an interview by reporters at the KPU Office in Central Jakarta on Saturday.

He noted that the data was observed after drawing a comparison between the initial 17 days in March 2019 and the same period in April 2019. The cases of circulation of hoaxes were most rife in April.

"We will release it (the data) later, wait until it calm down," he stated.

The minister further appealed to the public to exercise self-control and not produce hoaxes on the recapitulation of results of vote counting for the 2019 election conducted by the commission.

"We stand together to not allow the spread of hoaxes, especially those targeting the KPU. We hold the KPU together to conduct the vote counting," he emphasized.

Rudiantara remarked that his party and the commission are currently tackling the platform spreading the hoax.
