Jakarta (ANTARA) - Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan has revealed that two dams are under construction in upstream areas in Jakarta to impound floodwaters.

"In the upstream areas, two dams are presently being built. Inshaa Allah (god willing), the work on the dams will be completed this year, so the rainwater flowing from Ciawi, Bogor, can be attenuated," Baswedan noted here, Friday.

On Thursday evening, Jakarta's 11 locations were inundated after torrential rains lashed Ciawi, Bogor District.

Lenteng Agung, Srengseng Sawah, Engadegan, Rawajati, Pejaten Timur, Cawang, Balekambang, Kampung Melayu, and Bidara Cina were among the areas hit by flooding.

The absence of a dam near the upstream areas results in the rainwater from Bogor flowing into Jakarta and submerging the capital city.
