Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government held a meeting to discuss how to improve the skills and quality of human resources (HR) in Indonesia.

"We will focus on training, vocational education, and polytechnics [to improve the quality of our] HR," Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani said at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday.

While discussing the number of vocational education students and how many of them would be connected to the industrial world, the government also mooted sending educators abroad for training, and inviting foreign trainers to Indonesia.

The senior minister noted that every ministry and institution would evaluate the benefits and needs of the various schools to improve the quality of HR.

"The evaluation includes the budget, needs, and development of HR," the senior minister said.

The government also discussed the establishment of vocational education committees to coordinate a number of vocational education institutions.

The meeting was attended by a number of ministers, including Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of National Development Planning/Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Bambang Brodjonegoro, Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Manpower Hanif Dhakiri, Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifudin, as well as Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir Effendy.
