Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police's anti-terror squad Detachment 88 has arrested five suspected terrorists from the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) network in Bekasi over the weekend, and shot dead one of them for attempting to throw a bomb.

At the National Police Headquarters Building, Jakarta, on Monday, Head of the Public Information Bureau at the National Police Public Relations Division Brigadier General Dedi Prasetyo said that the suspected terrorist SL (34) was arrested in Babelan, Bekasi, on Saturday (4/5) at 14.34 WIB.

SL, previously also involved in the Thamrin bombing in 2016 and the riots at the Mako Brimob Prison in 2017, had a structured and strong group, he said.

In addition to SL, on Saturday (4/5) morning, the authority arrested a terrorist AN (20) in South Tambun, Bekasi District, for alleged involvement in hiding the whereabouts of SL.

Another suspected terrorist with the initials MC (28), who also played a role in not disclosing the whereabouts of SL, was arrested in Tegal on the same day.

Furthermore, on Sunday (5/5), suspected terrorist MI (32), who was a member of the JAD and learned about the manufacture of TATP (Triaceton Triperoxide) bombs by SL, was arrested in South Bekasi, Bekasi.

Also arrested were suspected terrorists IF or Samuel (19) and T (25) in Jati Asih, Bekasi, who apart from hiding the whereabouts of SL, also made TATP bombs along with them.

IF who is known as the best bomb-maker in the group was caught when he was with another suspect T. But T was managed to escape, and the police found a bomb made from a gas tube.

When pursued by the anti-terror squad, T tried to throw a bomb at the personnel but the bomb was exploded and killed him.

It was later discovered that the SL group would take action at the Jati Asih Police Station, Bekasi.

Dedi Prasetyo said the arrests of five people in Bekasi and one person in Tegal were a result of the development of arrests of RH and M terrorist suspects who were arrested in Bitung, Manado, on Thursday (2/5).

"Six of them were arrested, but previously, two were arrested in Bitung. There are still a number of people who are still being pursued by Detachment 88," he said.
