Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chef de Mission (CdM) of the 2019 Sudirman Cup Team Achmad Budiharto was optimistic that the Indonesian team would emerge winners at the foremost badminton mixed team championship.

The 2019 Sudirman Cup Championship will be held from May 19-26 in Nanning, China.

"Based on the composition of the players we have today, Indonesia has a chance to bring home the Sudirman trophy after the country's victory in the tournament in 1989," Achmad Budiharto said during the Indonesian Badminton Association's (PBSI) 68th anniversary celebrations at Jakarta on Saturday.

Budiharto hoped all the players would give it their best shot.

At the 2019 Sudirman Cup, he would rely on three categories—the men's doubles, men's singles and mixed doubles.

"In the women's doubles, we have Greysia Polii / Apriyani Rahayu. We also hope there will be a surprise in the women's singles category," Budiharto remarked.

He revealed that the Indonesian team had expressed their readiness to face their opponents in the 2019 Sudirman Cup.

"We will ensure that all players fight to the maximum to bring home the Sudirman Cup. We will not give up," Budiharto stated.

With regard to the Indonesian Badminton Association's (PBSI) 68th anniversary celebrations, he expected that the Indonesian team could win other world championships.

"Hopefully, at the age of 68, PBSI will become stronger in the field of coaching and achievements, "Budiharto said.

For the 2019 Sudirman Cup, Indonesia has deployed 20 of its best players consisting of 12 male and eight female players. PBSI also appointed Hendra Setiawan as the team captain. EDITED BY INE
