Subianto received an overwhelming majority of the votes in 18 cities and districts in the province, while Jokowi was able to seal victory only in Mentawai Island District, according to the results of the completed vote recapitulation by the West Sumatra General Elections Commission (KPU) office on Sunday.
West Sumatra recorded a voter turnout of 3,735,864, or 79 percent, in the 2019 general elections.
Subianto bagged 2,804,934 votes, or some 84 percent, while Jokowi won 404,188 votes in Indonesia's westernmost province of Aceh. In Samosir District, North Sumatra Province, Jokowi received 72,289 votes, or 97 percent, while Prabowo Subianto won merely 1,426 votes, or three percent.
On April 17, 2019, Indonesia organized simultaneous legislative and presidential elections, viewed as the world's largest and most complicated single-day democratic exercise.
The mammoth elections witnessed the unforeseen deaths of 574 officers, including polling attendants, election supervisors, and police officers, owing to exhaustion while fulfilling their electoral duties. Over 3,700 polling station officers fell ill due to fatigue after clocking prolonged hours, reaching over 24 hours before, during, and after polling day.
Several doctors and politicians, however, have called for conducting a probe into the deaths.
