"Ma'ruf Amin and I would like to express our gratitude to all people of Indonesia for the trust laid on both of us (to lead the country)," Jokowi stated at Kampung Deret (village of row houses) in Tanah Tinggi, Johar Baru, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday.
Earlier, at 1:28 a.m. local time, the General Election Commission (KPU) had made an official declaration of Jokowi winning the presidential election following the completion of the national vote tally.
The final tally indicated that the Jokowi-Ma’ruf Amin pair won 85 million votes, or 55.5 percent of the national vote, compared to his challenger Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno pair's 68 million votes, or 44.5 percent.
With this announcement, Jokowi has committed to fulfilling programs that ensure greater equality and endorsing social justice for all Indonesian people, irrespective of their political differences.
"Let us unite in building our beloved nation and homeland for the sake of peace and welfare of our future generations---the generation of our grandchildren in the future," Jokowi noted.
