"The KPU has officially announced the results of the presidential election, and I congratulate Jokowi on returning as President of Indonesia," Gu Jingqi said in Surabaya, East Java, on Wednesday.
Gu Jingqi in a break fasting event with the Haji Muhammad Cheng Ho Foundation, East Java branches of Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah also distributed Ramadan gifts to 1,600 orphans at the Cheng Ho Mosque in Surabaya. He expressed hope that under President Jokowi's leadership, Indonesia's development would be both improved and faster.
"Hopefully, the Chinese and Indonesian people can continue to inherit Cheng Ho's spirit, and also become Cheng Ho in this new era, so that it can further encourage and advance friendship between the two countries," he said.
Gu Jinqi shared his happiness to give 500 gifts to children and underprivileged families.
He said the Chinese Consulate General in Surabaya had repeatedly held a joint ifthar (break fasting) event and gift giving activities, sharing the love of Ramadan with orphans.
"I believe that what is received by children is not only a gift, but mainly the deep affection from the Chinese people to the people of Indonesia, and also a form of respect for the Chinese government towards different religious customs and tribal traditions," he said.
