"I condole the deaths of our brothers (in the May 22 rally in Jakarta). May their good deeds be accepted by Allah SWT," he remarked after attending the signing of a cooperation agreement and certificate on supporting the 2020 population census at the Hasanudin University (Unhas) in Makassar on Thursday.
Furthermore, the governor lauded the community, particularly in South Sulawesi Province, for their role in maintaining peace.
"Alhamdulillah (Thank God), the situation has now become conducive and peaceful. Hence, on behalf of the government, I express my heartfelt gratitude to (the nation)," he stated.
Six people were killed while over 200 others suffered injuries when the protest against the disputed election results escalated to violent clashes on May 21-22 in West and Central Jakarta.
As of Thursday, 13 people stricken by the riot that erupted in the Jakarta capital city on May 21-22 are yet undergoing treatment at Pelni Hospital in West Jakarta.
Head of the Development Division of Pelni Hospital Dr Didid Winnetouw remarked that the victims suffered moderate to serious wounds, including fractures, muscle injuries, and those from rubber bullets.
Some 82 victims of the unrest were hospitalized, including 62 undergoing treatment for minor injuries, 13 for moderate injuries, five for serious injuries, and one for non-traumatic ailments, while two died, he emphasized.
Most victims are local residents, and their families have visited them, he added.
"Most victims have returned home. Currently, 13 patients are yet under treatment at the hospital," Winnetouw noted here on Thursday.
