Jakarta (ANTARA) - State Police's Agency for Criminal Research (Bareskrim) investigators will, on May 29, investigate ex-chief of staff of the Army Strategic Reserve Command Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Kivlan Zen, named suspect in spreading hoaxes and committing treason.

"Bareskrim investigators were supposed to question Kivlan on May 21, but since he (Kivlan) had to conduct an activity, his lawyer notified the investigators to defer the questioning to May 29, 2019, at 10 WIB," Head of the Public Information Bureau at the State Police Public Relations Division Brigadier General Dedi Prasetyo remarked here on Tuesday.

Prasetyo confirmed that Zen's lawyer had informed his client would be present at the questioning on Wednesday.

Speaking in connection with the likelihood of Zen's detention, Prasetyo clarified that the investigators handling the case would take a call on it.

Zen had earlier faced the police's questioning as a witness in the case. Zen's lawyer, Pitra Ramdhoni, stated that his client had clarified to investigators that he had not intended to commit treason during the demonstration on May 9, 2019.

Ramdhoni further cited a police report accusing Zen of committing treason by spreading slander.

A man named Jalaludin from Serang, Banten, filed report number: LP / B / 0442 / V / 2019 / Bareskrim against Zen. Cases reported are criminal acts of spreading hoaxes in line with Law Number 1 of 1946 concerning the Criminal Code, article 14 and/or article 15 on state security/treason Law Number 1 of 1946 concerning the Criminal Code, article 107 in conjunction with article 87 and/or article 163.
