The Ministry of Education and Culture reports an increase in the number of junior high school students sitting for national examination (UN) compared to the previous year.
"The average increase of score in state junior high schools (SMP) is 1.67 points, while that of private junior high schools is 2.11 points. Also the average increase of score in, state Islamic junior high school (MTs) is 1.58 points, while that of private MTs is 1.34 points," Head of the Ministry of Education and Culture's Research and Development Agency Totok Suprayitno said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The implementation of the Computer Based National Examination (UNBK) for SMP/MTs reached 83 percent, or 3.58 million participants, and was held in 43,833 schools. In 2019, seven provinces held UNBK among 100 percent of the junior high school students.
As many as 22 provinces held UNBK at the level of 100 percent for MTs, while the package B exam was held at 100 percent UNBK in 33 provinces. "The highest increase in scores occurred in mathematics subjects," he said.
Corrections or decreases occurred in schools that held paper and pencil-based national examinations (UNKP) in 2018, with a low national exam integrity index (IIUN), which then switches to UNBK organizer schools in 2019.
"The low IIUN schools were corrected by up to 12.20 points. However, UNKP schools with high IIUN increased by 0.31 points," he said.
Ministry of Education and Culture Inspector General Muchlis Rantoni Luddin said during the implementation of the SMP / equivalent UN in 2019, that the IG Complaint Post received 86 reports from the public.
However, after checking, or performing verifications in the field, only 55 cases can be followed up, according to the applicable regulations.
"Of the 55 cases, three students violated two subjects at once and 52 students violated one subject," said the Inspector General.
Henceforth, Inspector General Muchlis recommends sanctions, based upon the applicable rules and the weight of the mistakes. In addition to students, sanctions will also be given to supervisors, proctors, and principals who administer national examinations in which fraudulent practices are discovered.
For the first time, the Ministry of Education and Culture gave a zero value to students who were proven to have committed violations.
