Singapore (ANTARA) - Ani Yudhoyono (66), the wife of former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono passed away at 11.50 local time on Saturday after being treated for several months at the National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore for blood cancer.

"Ibu Ani passed away at 11.50 Singapore time," a spokesman of Democrat Party Task Force Command Tomi Satryatomo said.

On Saturday morning , a spokesperson of Democrat Party Imelda Sari entered the hospital building tearfully and walked directly to the ICU (intensive care unit).

She refused to give further information to journalist. "I am still waiting," she said.

The Indonesian First Lady during the 2004-2014 period is well known for her passion for photography and as an active social media user. She regularly updates her activities with her husband and family to her millions Instagram followers, including her moments in the hospital.

On Friday (31/5), Andi Mallarangeng, a senior politician of the Democratic Party paid a visit to Ani Yudhoyono at NUH.

Mallarangeng admitted Ibu Ani's health condition steadily deteriorating in spite of signs of improvement.

While undergoing treatment for blood cancer, Ani Yudhoyono's health condition has kept fluctuating.

Mallarangeng remarked that chemotherapy was commonly administered during cancer treatment.

"Anyone who has ever had cancer must have also experienced 'ups and downs' during chemotherapy," he added.
