I propose the need to form a special committee to probe the rallies on May 21-22, so it can receive a report of lost persons, if any, and to solve a deadlock in the legal process.Jakarta (ANTARA) - Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction in the House of Representatives suggested forming a special committee for investigating rioting during rallies outside the Election Oversight Body (Bawaslu), Jakarta, May 21-22, to oppose the presidential election result.
"I propose the need to set up a special committee to investigate the rallies on May 21-22, so it can obtain a report of lost persons, if any, and to overcome a deadlock in the legal process," deputy chief of the faction Habib Aboe Bakar Al Habsyi noted at a plenary meeting of the House of Representatives here on Tuesday.
No official data is available on deaths and injuries in the riots on May 21-22, he remarked.
Quoting data from Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, Habsyi stated that eight died, while 730 others suffered injuries during the two days of rallies.
"The figure is not small. I offer condolences to the victims that we do not expect," he remarked.
Furthermore, he admitted to hearing a report of some people going missing in the incident and were held in police custody, but their relatives could not meet them.
He appealed to the relevant agencies to not leave information unattended and to fulfill their responsibilities to prevent it from not turning into a hoax.
With the establishment of the special committee, he is optimistic that the House would be able to furnish precise information to the public on the number of deaths and injuries resulting from the incident.
