"The DPR's Commission III has scheduled a working meeting with the National Police chief on June 19. (The meeting) is part of the Commission III's supervisory tasks with its working partner," Deputy Chief of the House Commission III Erma Suryani Ranik remarked at the Parliament Building in Jakarta on Thursday.
The House Commission III awaits a clarification on the death count from the rioting during the rallies owing to missing link in information.
The Democrat Party politician remarked that the National Police had made assurance of not using sharp bullets in securing the rallies staged to voice rejection to the presidential election result.
"However, some demonstrators were killed by the sharp bullets fired to take control of the situation during the rioting. Hence, the DPR Commission III will summon the National Police chief as leader of the National Police," she stated.
The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction in the DPR had earlier suggested to form a special committee to investigate rioting during rallies outside the Bawaslu.
"I propose the need to set up a special committee to investigate the rallies on May 21-22, so it can obtain a report of lost persons, if any, and to overcome a deadlock in the legal process," deputy chief of the faction Habib Aboe Bakar Al Habsyi noted at a plenary meeting of the DPR in Jakarta on Tuesday.
No official data is yet available on deaths and injuries in the riots on May 21-22, he stated.
Quoting data from Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, Habsyi stated that eight had lost their lives, while 730 others got injured during the two days of rallies.
"The figure is not small. I offer condolences to the victims that we did not expect," he remarked.
