Head of the Class A Kupang Search and Relief Office, East Nusa Tenggara, Emi Friezer, when contacted by ANTARA in Kupang, gave confirmation on the finding of the bodies of two passengers of the MV Nusa Kenari 02.
Friezer remarked that the passengers were found dead and floating in the Alor waters not far from the site where MV Nusa Kenari 02 had sunk on Saturday (June 15).
He explained that the bodies of two victims were found by the Basarnas team during the third day of search operations by deploying the Antareja State Ship (KN) 233 Kupang that Megawati had commanded while conducting sweeping operations along Alor Beach.
Friezer remarked that the bodies of two victims, comprising a male and female, were found by the Basarnas team at two separate locations in a lifeless state.
Friezer revealed that the first body found was that of a male child at 15:10 WITA at the coordinates 08 ° 36'21 "S 124 ° 13'26" E.
The second body was that a female found by the search team from Basarnas Kupang at 15:40 WITA at the coordinates 08 ° 36'29 "S 124 ° 13'01" E
.
He confirmed that with the discovery of the two victims, two passengers from MV Nusa Kenari 02 were yet missing after the boat, with 48 passengers and four crew members aboard, sank.
"The search and rescue team is continuing search operations for the two undiscovered passengers of the MV Nusa Kenari 02," he stated.
With the finding of two victims following the sinking of MV Nusa Kenari 02, the death toll has reached five, while two are yet to be found.
"We will continue to look for the two undiscovered victims. The search process is currently yet ongoing," Friezer stated.
