Actually, the global economy is not conducive, particularly after the trade war and various global political upheavals. However, despite the situation, our economy is still able to grow from year to year, though the growth is not as fast as expected.Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Darmin Nasution expressed belief that Indonesia's economic growth will continue in spite of the current global pressure.
"In fact, the global economy is inconducive, especially after the trade war and various global political upheavals. Nonetheless, our economy is still able to grow from year to year, though the growth is not as fast as expected," he stated during a meeting with the budgetary board of the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Nasution held discussions with Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani, and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto over the work and budget plans of ministries and non-ministerial government institutions.
Indonesia's economic growth was recorded at 4.88 percent in 2015, rising to 5.03 percent in 2016 and 5.07 percent in 2017, and further increasing to 5.17 percent in 2018.
"This means despite the inconducive global economic pressures, it (the economic growth) has recorded a steady rise," he pointed out.
Nasution noted that the other indicator of economic growth, such as inflation, had also shown consistent improvement. During the 2015-2018 period, the average annual inflation was in line with the government-set target of below 3.5 percent.
Moreover, the poverty rate, unemployment rate, and gini ratio have also shown signs of improvement.
"This demonstrates that all elements of our economic growth together have good quality," he added. Related news: Economic growth in second quarter of 2019 to reach 5.05-5.15 percent
