Osaka (ANTARA) - Chinese President Xi Jinping has promised mutually beneficial cooperation with Indonesia in the future. "Next year is 70 years of China-Indonesia diplomatic ties. We must step forward, mutually benefit and go together into the new era," Xi said during a China-Indonesia bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the Group of Twenty (G20) Summit in Osaka, Japan, Friday.

He was again glad to meet President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) as a friend, Xi said. "Once again, I express congratulations on your victory in the 2019 presidential election," he added.

The victory reflected the Indonesian people's support and recognition of the Jokowi administration in the past five years, the Chinese President said.

"In the first period of your government, China's support for Indonesia continued to grow well, particularly development which benefits the people of the two countries," he said.

Return the compliment, President Jokowi said he was glad to meet Xi again. "Thank you for the congratulations and letter from His Excellency over the general elections in Indonesia," he said.

Jokowi also congratulated the Chinese government on its success in hosting an international meeting recently. "Congratulations on the success in organizing the forum. And I do apologize for being unable to attend it due to the general elections," he said.

Both Xi and Jokowi were in Osaka to attend the G20 Summit.
