Jakarta (ANTARA) - Research, Technology, and Higher Education Minister Mohamad Nasir installed members of the National Research Council (DRN) for the 2019-2022 term on Thursday.

"I harbor a dream of the new DRN executive board being able to increase the number of research work until 2022. Similarly, the number of innovations would also increase, thereby offering added value to the Indonesian economy," he remarked while addressing the inauguration of the new DRN members in Jakarta on Thursday.

The new DRN members should ponder over novel ways of creating a sound research and innovation climate in Indonesia, he affirmed.

For instance, in the field of food and agriculture, the newly inducted DRN members should mull over ways in which the country can achieve self-reliance in food production in a way that the public can witness the benefits, he explained.

Nasir called for the need to make innovations in the field of health and medicines that will be beneficial to the public.

The minister believes that research in the telecommunication field also plays a crucial role in this era.

"In the field of defense, we must be able to develop strong defense technologies," he stated.

The minister remarked that in the field of disaster mitigation, DRN members should contemplate on ways to mitigate disasters to curtail the number of fatalities.
