Jifolk will be held on July 12-14, 2019, at Alun-Alun Temanggung, Director of the Sindoro Sumbing Festival Imam Abdul Rofiq remarked here on Tuesday.
Jifolk is an international folklore show, with significant focus on the concept of preservation, local wisdom, and collaboration.
The three-day event will shed light on the rich folk culture from varied regions in Indonesia and overseas.
Some traditional dance forms from Indonesia to be performed at this festival include the Barong dance from Blora, Banyumas's Lengger dance, Wonogiri's Ogleng dance, Flores' Sasando dance, Bali's Kecak dance, and Rampak Kendang dance from West Java.
Dancers from other ASEAN nations -- Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam -- will collaboratively present the ASEAN Contemporary Dance.
Also on offer at the festival will be traditional healthy culinary stands and exhibitions featuring Temanggung folklore.
Rofiq is optimistic that Jifolk will present a platform and an opportunity to Temanggung local art performers to share the preserved local arts with local people and its surroundings. Thus, local art performers, in the near future, will be more keen to practice and develop their art skills.
Moreover, he believes the local art performers in Temanggung will have an opportunity to meet and share their knowledge and experiences with other local art performers from different regions in Indonesia and foreign performers.
"Through this event, the local artists and people are expected to develop a greater sense of pride and love for the local culture. They are also expected to develop greater confidence that our local culture and arts can compete with those from other regions and countries," he added.
