Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed support to hold the Ambon Night cultural event in a bid to promote Ambon City to the international community.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi conveyed this support while welcoming Ambon Mayor Richard Louhenapesy at the Foreign Ministry office, Jakarta, Wednesday (July 17).

"Ms Retno fully supports the implementation of the Ambon Night activities which, according to the plan, will be held on July 25, 2019, at the hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I have also sought the minister's readiness to open activities," Louhenapesy remarked.

The Ambon mayor revealed that during the meeting with Minister Marsudi, discussions covered the Abadi Field LNG project in the Masela Block along with its operational plans and potential impacts.

"Long before the Masela Block was in operation, a promotional effort was made to introduce Ambon, both nationally and internationally, including through the Ambon Night activity that featured cultural attractions," he pointed out.

He noted that 60 to 70 ambassadors of friendly countries are targeted to attend the activity.

"We are grateful to have the full support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, especially pertaining to international diplomacy. Hence, it is expected that the Melanesian state ambassador will attend the Ambon Night event, and hopes ride high on Maluku being increasingly known (in the international community)," he emphasized.

"We will also invite investors that are interested in visiting Maluku. We coordinate with the provincial government, who will be invited," he added.

At the meeting with Marsudi, Louhenapesy also reported on the planned implementation of an international music conference in October 2019 as well as the continuation of the Ambon and Vlissingen (Netherlands) Twin Cities Program that encompassed cooperation in the fields of health, education, and the environment.

"The minister will facilitate this discussion with the minister of health (Netherlands). The belief is that she really supports the Ambon-Vissingen cooperation," he added.
