Kapuas Hulu, W Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Kapuas Hulu, W Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Military (TNI) has readied 70 personnel in Kapuas Hulu District, West Kalimantan, as a precautionary measure against land and forest fires in the region, particularly in seven villages prone to the forest fire.

"A total of 70 TNI personnel have been readied in Kapuas Hulu under the program of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB)," Putussibau District Military Commander Lt Col Inf Basyaruddin remarked when contacted in Putussibau, Kapuas Hulu, on Thursday.

Basyaruddin noted that the deployment of military personnel was based on the fact that Kapuas Hulu's peatland areas are prone to fire.

Earlier on in the day, Rupinus from the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Kapuas Hulu District noted that the district's seven villages, with their vast peatland areas, are prone to land and forest fires.

The seven villages are Penai and Bangkong in Silat Hilir Sub-District; Ranyai Hilir Village in Seberuang Sub-district; Madang Permai in Suhaid Sub-district; the villages of Daerah Dalam and Sekulat in Selimbau Sub-district; and Sepandan Village in Batang Lupar Sub-district.

"Military personnel will be deployed to the seven villages and join the police, BPBD, and locals," Rupinus noted.
