The epicenter of the earthquake which struck at 11.38 a.m. local time was located in the sea some 250 kilometers southeast of Enggano, the agency said.
An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale also jolted Enggano and its environs at 09.11 a.m. on that day. The quake was centered 222 kilometers southeast of Enggano at a depth of 10 kilometers.
On August 5, 2019, an earthquake of magnitude 5.0 also shook Enggano. The epicenter of the quake was located 92 kilometers southwest of Enggano.
BMKG said none of the earthquakes had the potential to trigger a tsunami.
