TdS has a high media value, hence, its implementation will affect the promotion and image of tourist destinations in West Sumatra and JambiJakarta (ANTARA) - The 11th Tour de Singkarak (TdS) international cycling race will be held in West Sumatra and Jambi Provinces from November 2-10, 2019.
This year, the route of the TdS will be expanded, for the first time, to cover Jambi Province as well, Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said in a statement released here on Thursday.
The race will have nine stages and cover 16 districts and municipalities in West Sumatra, and two districts in Jambi.
Offering prizes to the tune of Rp2.3 billion, TdS is a sports tourism event that has promoted tourist destinations in West Sumatra so far.
TdS is the biggest international cycling race in Indonesia, and its participants are entertained with local traditional dances and cuisine.
"TdS has a high media value, hence, its implementation will affect the promotion and image of tourist destinations in West Sumatra and Jambi," Arief Yahya said.
West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno said his province is promoting 49 major tourist attractions this year, and three of them have been included in the ‘Calendar of 100 Wonderful Events’.
The three main tourism events are Pasa Harau Art And Cultural Festival, Tour de Singkarak (TdS), and Minangkabau Cultural Festival.
This year, West Sumatra hopes to attract 58,447 foreign tourists and 8.4 million domestic tourists.
"TdS is the most famous tourism event in West Sumatra. This year, we are collaborating with Jambi. Two districts in Jambi, namely Kerinci and Sungai Penuh, will be included in the race's route. This is an opportunity to promote Jambi tourist destinations,” the Governor said.
Meanwhile, the Pasa Harau Art and Cultural Festival will be organized in Harau Valley, Limapuluh Kota Sub-district, West Sumatra Province from August 16 to 18.
It will feature Harau Performing Arts, Harau Adventure Run, Jawi Race, Harau Explore, and Chasing Dew of Harau Valley events.
The Minangkabau Cultural Festival will be held in Tanah Datar District from December 4 to 7, 2019.
