Sail Nias 2019 is expected to become a momentum for the revival of Nias tourism.
Nias, North Sumatra (ANTARA) - At least eight foreign ambassadors are expected to attend the Sail Nias 2019 peak event to be held at the Pelabuhan Baru Pier, South Nias District, North Sumatra, on Saturday (Sept 14).

The ambassadors arrived in Gunung Sitoli City on Friday, Indonesia's Justice and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly remarked in Teluk Dalam on Friday.

"I met the ambassadors in Gunung Sitoli. They said 'this is a beautiful island, very artistic.' They visited museums and unique traditional houses. These are interesting attractions for them that lure them to witness the tourist destinations in Nias," he noted.

"We hope that the tourists will come to enjoy the various attractions, such as surfing, Bawomataluo village, and culinary, as well as coffee festival. We hope the event tomorrow would be successful," the minister remarked.

He is upbeat about the Sail Nias 2019 offering the necessary momentum to revive Nias tourism since Nias Island is a haven for especially maritime tourism.

At least 100 thousand Indonesian and foreign tourists are expected to come for Sail Nias, whose key activities are being held on September 10-14, 2019. Nias Island, located in North Sumatra Province and often viewed the best kept secret of Indonesians, is being unveiled to the world at the international maritime event organized from July to September 2019.

Sail Nias, the 11th series of Sail Indonesia, is to be opened at a ceremony in Teluk Dalam (Bay), South Nias, on September 14, 2019. Sail Indonesia is part of the plans to expedite the development of underdeveloped regions in Indonesia.

Various activities are being organized during the event, including the Wonderful Nias Expo 2019, an international surfing contest, a battleship parade, Nias Marathon, a culinary bazaar, and traditional art and cultural performances.

Other activities comprise Wind Surfing and Sailing Contests, Free Diving Competition, Stone Jump Festival, Traditional Fishing Boat Parade, Coffee Festival, Fishing Tournament, Wonderful Tourism Photo Expo, One Thousand Tents Festival, and the Mt Sitoli cultural seminar.
