I was just remembering my son. I felt as if my son was holding the protest
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Hundreds of high school students hurled stones at the police who were guarding the parliament building complex in Jakarta Wednesday, to protest against some controversial bills that were supposed to be passed by parliament.

The demonstrators, who claimed to be high school students from Greater Jakarta, pelted stones at security officers from across the street. Some cars stuck in a heavy traffic jam at the location were also hit in the stone-throwing.

In retaliation, the police fired teargas shells against the agitating students.

Some other police officers took a different approach to disperse the students. They tried to reason with the students and were even ready to pose for selfies with them.

"Don't be afraid," a policeman was heard telling a student as he approached him and embraced him.

The police officers then told the students to go home.

"I was just remembering my son. I felt as if my son was holding the protest," he said.

The students then retreated to Semanggi.
