Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is planning to prepare additional budget allocations for the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) leaders, whose number has increased, from eight to 10, during the 2019-2024 period, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati stated.

"We will look at the existing budget allocations. If a decision to that effect has been in place, they will make a proposal, and we will increase the budget allocations," she remarked in Jakarta on Friday.

Indrawati noted that the government will abide by the MPR's political decision. The government presently awaits an official notification from the MPR secretary general over its additional personnel and leaders.

"The MPR secretary general has notified us on their budget requirement," she remarked.

The minister stated that during deliberations on the 2020 state budget, the MPR secretariat general had proposed budget allocations to the tune of some Rp603.7 trillion to which a unanimous agreement had been reached.

The joint meeting of the MPR and Regional Representative Council (DPD) had endorsed 10 MPR leaders for the 2019-2024 period, in comparison with eight for the 2014-2019 period.

The 10 MPR leaders are Syarief Hasan of the Democrat Faction, Ahmad Basarah of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Faction, Jazilul Fawaid of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Faction, Hidayat Nur Wahid of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) Faction, Zulkifli Hasan of the National Mandate Party (PAN) Faction, Bambang Soesatyo of the Golkar Party Faction, Lestari Moerdijat of the National Democrat (NasDem) Faction, Ahmad Muzani of the Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Faction, Arsul Sani of the United Development Party (PPP) Faction, and Fadel Muhammad of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) Faction.
