Some residents have taken refuge elsewhere as the floodwaters in several places were quite deepMeulaboh, Aceh (ANTARA) - As many as 171 residents in Simeulue Island in Aceh Province have been evacuated to higher ground until Thursday afternoon after floodwaters reaching a depth of 20 centimeters (cm) to 150cm inundated their homes. The villages of Latitik, Lakubang, Lamayang, Sebbe, Laure-e, Luan Sorip and Wel-Wel in Simeulue district are flooded.

"Some residents have taken refuge elsewhere as the floodwaters in several places were quite deep," Chief of the Public Relations Section of the Secretariat of Simeulue District, Dodi Juliardi Bas said.
An integrated health service post, a village head's office, a mosque, and a public meeting hall in Simeulue Tengah Sub-district were inundated.
The flooding occurred after a local river overflowed following heavy rains, it is believed.
The Simeulue District Government, through the District Disaster Mitigation Board (BPBD) has prepared logistics for flood victims.
