Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Islamic Students Association (HMI) pledged support to Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin’s Oct-20 swearing-in ceremony as Indonesia's president and vice president for 2019-2024 since as Indonesia’s integral part, it will ensure this historic event runs smoothly.

"The HMI will secure the smooth convening of the swearing-in ceremony," Chairman of the University, Student, and Youth Affairs Division at HMI's Central Executive Board Akmal Fahmi noted in a press statement made available to ANTARA in Jakarta on Friday.

Fahmi believes incumbent President Widodo would issue a government regulation in lieu of the law (Perppu) to revoke the controversial revision of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Law

In connection with the demand of demonstrating students to revoke the revised KPK Law, HMI has decided to let it be officially made effective since Thursday (Oct 17) by taking into account the absence of an emergency situation in the implementation of laws, he stated.

The judicial review will be an endeavor made by those opposing the revision of the KPK Law, he remarked.

The Widodo-Amin pair will be sworn in at the Parliament Building on Oct 20. Some 30 thousand security personnel will secure this historic event.

In the meantime, prior to the swearing-in of Jokowi and Amin on Sunday, several Papuan figures echoed their aspirations regarding the pair's administration.

Esmon Welilo, a priest and concurrently chairman of the Interreligious Harmony Forum (FKUB), has urged Jokowi to hold a dialogue with representatives of all Papuan community groups to find solutions to crucial problems in the province after he is sworn in as Indonesia's president.

The Papuan people are keen to hold a discussion in keeping with the spirit of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia as the central government had done in Aceh Province, he noted.

"We do hope that the dialogue would be held during his second leadership term," he told ANTARA in Jayapura, the capital city of Papua Province, on Thursday.

Welilo stated that Jokowi is the first Indonesian president to have undertaken 12 working visits to Papua Province, including thrice to Wamena, the capital city of Jayawijaya District.

Under Jokowi's leadership, it is time for the central government to hold a dialog to seek comprehensive solutions to the problems in Papua, he stated while expressing belief that all Papuans would continue to support the government's programs.
