I think what is happening these days, including the presence of Prabowo, is a political reconciliation that Jokowi is making for stability of the government in the next five years
Jakarta (ANTARA) - People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Bambang Soesatyo echoed President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi’s) keenness for political reconciliation for stability during his subsequent five-year term by appointing Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto as defense minister in cabinet.

"I think what is taking place these days, including the presence of Prabowo, is a political reconciliation that Jokowi is making for stability of the government in the next five years," Soesatyo remarked here on Tuesday.

A reconciliation has taken place in the Parliament, and it is further strengthened in the Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin government's cabinet, he pointed out.

He remarked that Jokowi had sufficient time to prepare a list of his cabinet members and compute in detail the selection of members of the new cabinet for the 2019-2014 term.

He emphasized that Gerindra joining the government's cabinet will not diminish the system of check and balances, especially in the Parliament.

"In fact, we hope that the subsequent ministers will work harder, so the president would no longer be criticized in the Parliament," he pointed out.

In the meantime, President Jokowi has called on candidates, both fresh faces and old hands, for members of his next cabinet line-up, since Monday.

Former chairman of the Constitutional Court (MK) Prof. Mahfud MD, CEO and founder of Gojek Nadiem Makarim, NET Chief Commissioner of Mediatama Television Wishnutama, Mahaka Group founder Erick Thohir, National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian, Prabowo Subianto, Gerindra Deputy Chairman Edhy Prabowo, PT Adhi Karya Commissioner Fajrul Rachman, PDIP politician Juliari Batubara, and Special Staff of the State Secretary Minister Nico Harjanto are among the fresh faces, who visited the Merdeka Palace to meet President Jokowi’s invite.

Old hands called by Jokowi comprised Golkar Chairman, concurrently Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto, State Secretary Minister Pratikno, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, Environmental Affairs and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, and Social Affairs Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.
