The President’s letter states that Chief Deputy of Indonesian Police Commissary General Ari Dono will be the acting chief until a new chief is appointed later
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Letter of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on the resignation of Police Chief General Tito Karnavian, received by the House of Representatives (DPR) Tuesday afternoon, mentioned the acting police chief’s name, the Speaker stated.

"The President’s letter states that Chief Deputy of Indonesian Police Commissary General Ari Dono will be the acting chief until a new chief is appointed later," Speaker of the DPR, Puan Maharani, said after a plenary meeting at Parliamentary Building in Jakarta.

Karnavian’s resignation was a necessity due to his new position in Jokowi's second term administration, as he could not hold dual posts.

"Also, certainly, there was a letter written by Karnavian himself resigning as a member of the Indonesian Police force as well as from his current position as the chief," Maharani added.

Karnavian met Maharani before the plenary meeting began and spoke about his new position, but Maharani refused to share it since President Jokowi will be announcing the complete ministerial list by Wednesday, October 23.

Today's DPR plenary meeting was aimed at approving Jokowi's proposal concerning the resignation.

"We are asking for the approval from the forum regarding this matter," Maharani said to parliament members during the meeting.

All the attending members at the forum approved the President's Proposal Letter Number R51 which is dated October 21, 2019. (INE)
