I think the model (of quake-resistant houses) in West Nusa Tenggara could be applied here
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) believes that the concept of earthquake-resistant houses built in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) can be applied to reconstruct several thousand houses damaged in the Sept-26 earthquake that had hit Maluku Province.

"I think the model (of quake-resistant houses) in West Nusa Tenggara can be applied here," he remarked after holding a dialog with the community at the earthquake victim command post in Tulehu Village, Maluku Tengah District, Maluku Province, on Tuesday.

During the visit, the president held a dialog with residents sheltered at the evacuee camp while awaiting the reconstruction of their houses following the earthquake that measured 6.5 on the Richter scale and struck at a depth of 10 kilometers on Sept 26.

The president visited the Maluku provincial capital of Ambon as part of his working visit that also took him to the provinces of Papua and West Papua.

"Last night, I received a complete report from the governor and BNPB (National Disaster Mitigation Agency) chief on the number of houses and public facilities damaged in Maluku Province," he remarked.

Quoting the report, the president remarked that at least 12,300 houses had sustained damage when the powerful earthquake hit Maluku.

"The local people will soon reconstruct the houses under a self-management scheme," he noted.

He gave instruction to apply the concept of earthquake-resistant housing in the reconstruction of houses damaged in the Sept-26 earthquake in Ambon.
