Medan, North Sumatra (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) chapter in North Sumatra affirmed that the suicide bomber, who afflicted injuries on six people, "has no religion" since no religion preaches hurting others or committing suicide.

"To this end, MUI Sumut (North Sumatra) expects relevant parties to desist from giving any comment on the perpetrator and his motive before any factual corroboration," Ardiansyah, general secretary of the MUI Sumut, stated here on Wednesday.

Ardiansyah is optimistic that the background and motives of the perpetrator would be brought to light in the presence of accurate facts.

"Do it akin to handling a plane crash case wherein experts disclose the cause of the accidents only based on strong evidence," he pointed out.

Ardiansyah believes that someone committed a crime not merely on grounds of religion, but it could be due to factors including economic condition, family issues, personal problems, or drugs effect.

The MUI Sumut has appealed to all institutions, especially public service providers, to strengthen security measures.

Inspector General M. Iqbal, spokesman of the Indonesian Police Headquarters, had earlier stated that the Medan bombing had caused injuries to six people, comprising five police officers and a civilian.

The bomber, a commercial motorcycle rider, reportedly blew himself up near a canteen of the Medan Police Office on Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. local time.
