Some 300 foreign runners joined the race came from 16 countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, Kenya, Japan, and the United States.
Divided into three categories, 2,300 people had joined the full marathon, while 4,300 runners each raced in half marathon and 10K categories.
"How many times have you joined the Borobudur Marathon, perhaps this is the second or third time, I always hope that you are joining this event cheerfully, happily," Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo said while opening the event.
During the marathon trip, Pranowo said, the runners could enjoy the sight which will come along with many surprises.
Pranowo himself has also joined the crowd in 10K category.
