This is the third facility of fast charging station owned by BPPT. Two other units are already installed in Jakarta and Serpong (Banten)Bandung, W Java (ANTARA) - The Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) installed its third fast charging station for electric cars at the office of PT LEN Industri (Persero) on Soekarno Hatta Street, Bandung, West Java, Monday.
"This is the third fast charging station facility owned by BPPT. Two others are already installed in Jakarta and Serpong (Banten)," BPPT head Hammam Riza remarked at the inauguration of the station along with Director of Operation of PT LEN Industri Adi Sufiadi Yusuf.
The location was chosen on the basis of likely future collaboration with local industries to increase local content in electric vehicles. Furthermore, the technology will support the use of electric vehicles for long-distance trips, especially from Jakarta to its surrounding cities.
The fast charging unit is fit for plug in DC Chademo (50kW), DC CCS 2 (50 kW), and AC type 2 (43kW).
Yusuf remarked that the fast charging station can charge the battery of electric cars, from zero to 80 percent within 30 minutes.
Development of the fast charging station is expected to support the use of electric vehicles in Indonesia.
"This station will be opened to the public, though with some restrictions, as we are yet evaluating it," he noted.
Development of the fast charging station is in line with Presidential Decree No. 55 of 2019 issued on August 12, 2019, on accelerating the battery-based electric vehicles program.
BPPT's initiative to build two fast charging stations in Jakarta and Serpong at the end of 2018 has encouraged the development of electric vehicles and its supporting infrastructure.
"The government will need to set the target of minimum number of electric vehicles to ensure maximum occupancy rate of charging stations. Some 20 thousand electric cars will need at least one thousand fast charging stations," Hammam added. (INE).
