In the near future, the BMKG will install sensor devices to detect earthquake and other natural disasters in Bangka Barat and Belitung Districts and Pangkal Pinang MunicipalityPangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung (ANTARA) - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) intends to install three earthquake detectors in Bangka Belitung Islands Province to alert locals to natural disasters, including earthquakes, before they strike.
"In the near future, the BMKG will install sensor devices to detect earthquakes and other natural disasters in the Bangka Barat and Belitung districts and Pangkal Pinang Municipality," Vice Governor of Bangka Belitung Islands Province Abdul Fatah stated here on Wednesday.
The plan to install detectors for earthquake, landslide, and floods, among others, is the outcome of cooperation among the Bangka Belitung Islands Provincial Administration, district/municipal governments, and BMKG to heighten vigilance and intensify disaster mitigation efforts during the exchange in extreme weather.
"With the devices, we will be able to obtain faster information and disseminate it to the public to stay alert for disaster," he explained.
Once installed, the natural disaster detectors will help the government curtail material losses and fatalities stemming from the disaster, he stated.
"The information obtained from the devices will be more accurate, faster, and efficient, so the public will remain more vigilant and prepared for the disaster," he remarked.
Chief of the Bangka Belitung Islands Provincial Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Mikron Antariksa called on the province’s district and municipal governments to be prompt in designating locations for the earthquake detectors.
"These devices that need a location, budget, and instruments serve the public's interests to avoid natural disasters," he expounded.
