Doctor LS only has a tourist visa on his passport without any work permit from the Indonesian government.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police arrested a Chinese doctor on charges of abusing his tourist visa to open a practice without a medical practice permit from the health authorities.

The Chinese doctor, identified by his initials as LS, was arrested along with the owner of the medical clinic, identified by his initial as A, on January 13, 2020. "Doctor LS only has a tourist visa on his passport without any work permit from the Indonesian government," Chief of the Public Relations Section of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Senior Commissioner, Yusri Yunus, said in Jakarta on Thursday.

Yusri said the tourist visa of LS is only valid for three months. Therefore, every three months he returns to China to extend his tourist visa. LS is believed to have stayed in Indonesian for nine months now.

The medical clinic where LS opened his practice is called Klinik Cahaya Mentari, and it holds a permit to provide medical treatment to everybody.

However, the police arrested the owner of the clinic for allowing LS to provide medical treatment without a permit.

At the clinic, LS offered treatment for sinus infections using an injection, without any need for an operation.

"He is an ENT specialist, particularly specializing in severe sinus infections. He would insert medicine into the patient's nose to cure the disease without an operation," he said.
