"There are several (flood-prone) areas particularly in East Jakarta and North Jakarta. A search and rescue (SAR) team comprising water police and mobile brigade personnel are on standby in several places," Head of the Public Relations Service of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Senior Commissioner Yusri Yunus said Friday.
Although no extraordinary incidents have been reported in North Jakarta, the police concentrated on the municipality following early warning from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), he said.
There will be high tide in the next two days, the BMKG has predicted.
"The high tide has not been felt. The BMKG has predicted there will be high tide in the next couple of days. Therefore, we are readying a team particularly for the coastal areas in North Jakarta," he said.
The rain intensity had caused flooding in the New Year in Jakarta and its satellite cities, as well as in Banten and several regions of West Java on the very first day of 2020.
Solely counting the Jakarta area, the flooding led to as many as 31.232 residents fleeing the area, according to the flood command post.
The death toll rose to 21 as people suffered from hypothermia or were either buried by landslides or drowned in the floods.
