"Masks will be sent at the request of the Hong Kong Red Cross, which is one of PMI's partners since supplies are running low, and (face masks are) currently difficult to obtain," PMI Secretary General Sudirman Said remarked on Saturday.
He also spoke of the PMI in 34 provinces having intensified preparedness as a precautionary measure against the spread of the coronavirus, especially in districts and cities bordering neighboring countries. Furthermore, campaigns that focus on preventing the transmission of coronavirus have been intensified.
Furthermore, the PMI has stepped up coordination and cooperation with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to monitor developments in connection with the spread of the coronavirus.
On Friday (Jan 31), the PMI officials coordinated with the organizers of the Association of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies from 52 nations to come up with joint steps as a precautionary measure against the spread of the coronavirus infection.
"The PMI continues to support the government's efforts to mitigate risk by deploying command post personnel and volunteers. Next week, a coordination meeting will also be held with local PMI officers from provinces and districts, with the highest risk," Said added.
