We have to prepare various facilities so that our children and grandchildren will not be distressed since the population is 267 million for nowJakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's population would reach 319 million in 2045, and the government needed to prepare various facilities and infrastructure to anticipate this surge, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has projected. "We have to prepare various facilities so that our children and grandchildren will not be distressed since the population is 267 million for now," Head of BPS Suhariyanto said after leading the 2020 Population Census Ceremony at the BPS Office in Jakarta Friday.
Based on the projection, the government should prepare the plans and policies from now.
BPS should collect the data through the 2020 Population Census to facilitate the government to make policies. The census will be held throughout Indonesia on Saturday, February 15, 2020.
BPS could obtain a definite number of Indonesians at the national, provincial, district, sub-district, and village levels from the population census.
The data results would show the distribution of the population especially in Sumatra and Java and that would also require a staple food plan.
BPS could also know the composition of male and female population ratio (sex ratio). The sex ratio was important information to make the population pyramid.
The population pyramid was also formed based on the number of unproductive population aged 14 years and below, productive aged 15 to 64 years, and aged of 65 years and above. This population pyramid would determine the national dependency ratio.
In addition to individual data, BPS also collected several other variables in the population census, namely housing, such as electricity consumption and consumption of tap water or river water.
"We also want to collect housing variables so that later they can be used as a basis for policy intervention," Suhariyanto said.
The survey results for individual data is expected to be obtained by January 2021. BPS would still take samples from around 4.3 million families.
"We have to think of the future and this survey with 90 questions will make a projection of Indonesia's population in 2045," he said. (INE)
