Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ciliwing River overflowed its bank, triggering floods that swamped some 100 homes in Cawang, East Jakarta, on Thursday afternoon.

"Some 100 houses in RT (neighborhood unit) 09, RT10, RT11 and RT12, RW (community unit) 05 in Cawang were flooded," local resident Sofyan revealed.

By 3:50 p.m. local time on Thursday, floodwaters in the worst-affected area reached a height of 1.5 meters in RT 09 and RT 11.

"Floodwaters in the area closest to the Ciliwung River's dike were chest-deep," he revealed.

The water level began to rise on Thursday morning, he stated.

The flooding is the third to hit Cawang during this rainy season, another resident Iwan remarked.

"This is the third of its kind since January 1, 2020," he added.
