Jakarta (ANTARA) - An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 hit Melonguane in North Sulawesi Province on Saturday night but no casualties were reported,
The tremor which broke out at 22:29 WIB (West Indonesia Standard Time) was centered in the sea 169 kilometers northwest of Melonguane at a depth of 10 kilometers, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said in a statement posted on its website,
The quake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami, the agency said. However, it called on local residents to stay alert for possible aftershocks.
There was no immediate report of casualties or material damage.
